Then, I go nowhere without my iPhone, e.g outside for a smoke ( yes I need to go on our balcony because hubs doesn't smoke and also hates it - a lot ).
My latest addition was a Kindle. Oh yes, no Apple here but the Kindle is just awesome, I love it soooo much! I love to read so this was one of the best presents hubs bought me ever.
Coming back to the real topic of the post. Friday was my fathers 65th Birthday and we ( my Mom, hubs and me) decided to get something special for this birthday. Well, you have to know that I share my silver Apple love with my Dad and he kept saying that he really would love having a iPad. Wouldn't that be a cool present? We thought it's perfect!!! And it happened that the European release date was Friday , 28th one day before Daddy's Birthday. Ha! Perfect!
I tried to pre order one but I was not lucky enough to get the first ones so hubs and me decided to be totally freaky and go directly to the shop in Munich in the morning of the release. If you know how a new Apple release works then you know that you have to be there early... Like really early to be lucky enough to get one.
Waiting in line, the only thing that made us happy was
that there were more people after us than in front of us...
The shop in Munich opened 8 am ( 2 hours earlier than normal...) and we got there at 5,30 am. Call me crazy - yes do it - you can call me freak or whatever, I can stand it. We were around number 100 in line and waited in line...
Well you can't see me , but there hubs and me are there right
where the arrow is...
8am!
Bääämmmm, there it was
THE Thought.
Shit.
I was screwed.
I started looking at hubs with big blue begging eyes...I know my hubs since 10 years and I just know when I get what I want. I just know when I have him right where I want him... Squeeeee!!!!
Finally when we got in front of the shop and it was our turn we bought not one iPad for my Daddy but we also bought one for ME... *does a biiiggg squeeee*
Gosh I was happy like a small girl on Christmas, I got my own iPad and I didn't even know I got one 2 hours before. How freaking awesome is this??I was so excited the whole day, and I still am and keep starring at it and just loving it and I keep smiling like an idot!
My parents (who were again on their way for a holiday in Italy) came this afternoon and I was just über-excited to give my Dad his present. He had nooo fucking clue and it was the best surprise ever! First we gave him a fake present: a new charger for his old MacBook. It didn't fit and we all played along about how bad this is and how sorry we are to get him a present he obviously cannot use.
Gosh this was fun.
Then I gave him a present and told him it was from hubs's parents and he started unwrapping it and then.... he looked inside ...
"Oh something from Apple" ( still clueless..) and when he finally realized what this is, he was so incredible stunned ... He couldn't believe it...
And, he had tears in his eyes ( well, you know that I tear up so easily and I have this from my Dad not my Mom *giggles* ) he was so thrilled and stunned and surprised it was The.Best.Surprise.Ever. Surprising my Dad is never easy but we managed like never before and this made it all so worth it!
Coming back to my iPad.
( and Yes, those are my hands trying to get a good picture with my iPhone...)
Well one question everyone keeps asking me " Does one need an iPad?" My answer is: No! It's a toy, but a beautiful one and it's fun for browsing around in the Web. It's one of those things you don't really need but it's incredible awesome to have. It makes surfing so much more fun, I spend usually a lot of time in the internet, reading emails, reading blogs, news and well also Twitter and gChat and for this it's just great!!!!
What does that means for the Kindle?
The iPad is also sold as an eBook reader and it was one of the first things I checked out. As an avid reader this was a must-check-out-immediately. But, it will never ever replace my Kindle!
Why?
- Kindle is so much lighter ( less than a paperback while the iPad is rather comparable to a big hardcover)
- the battery lasts forever (iPad battery doesn't really last long)
- the screen is perfect to read even in the sun ( the iPad has a shiny screen which is beautiful and brilliant but not suitable to read outside)
So I would never replace my Kindle for reading, but there is an iPad Kindle app and if I want to read one of my Kindle books there I can still do it anyway. I love my Kindle and my iPad for different reasons. So my advice of you planning to buy an eBook reader and just want to read, the Kindle is the better choice. iPad is for browsing the Web and just a shiny cool toy!
I am incredible in love with the Kindle and
incredible in love LOVE love with my iPad.
What were the first things I did with the iPad?
Fist I synchronized it to have everything I need on it, address book, Safari bookmarks and such stuff. Then I went and looked at all the 100 and 1000 different apps and search for "Twilight" .
Thanks for TwilightCupcake for the Wallpaper!!
I couldn't resist and bought the SceneIt app and another game like this and I have to say those are sooooo much fun!!! Truly! And I was all arrogant and thought this would be easy and I know simply everything after watching Twilight for trillion times. Ha! The games surprised me once or twice!
Oh and I downloaded the first part of Twilight - The Graphic Novel which was free because it's just to get you hooked. Lool, it worked!! I absolutely love it and can't wait for the full release!
Wooow, long post hu? Are you are still with me? But I had to share my excitement, Friday was truly a day full of surprises and just plain awesome. I have an iPad!!! Squee, I still can't believe it.. I think I have to go and play with it now....
